One of the bigger search engines for colleges, it has many features to search out and compare schools, as well as many additional options. It is a good starting point for a college search. College Confidential (www.collegeconfidential.com) For everything college, this site not only has a search feature but also forums, articles, and other resources. Colleges That Change Lives (www.ctcl.org) While not a real search engine, it is a quick look at a group of small, private liberal arts colleges. If big state schools and Ivy League are not calling you, try here for a look a schools that have similar characteristics but are diverse in many ways. There is also a book of the same name for reference. Unigo - (www.unigo.com) Search out colleges and scholarships with information provided by current students of schools. Thousands of campuses are rated on a variety of factors that students consider important. Noodle (www.noodle.com) Noodle.com offers a college search tool that asks the user to plug in criteria such as GPA, test scores, geographical location preferences, etc. Not just limited to post-secondary options, there is also information on test prep, tutoring, and consulting. Cappex (www.cappex.com) Cappex allows students to build a profile, search for colleges based on name and location (along with some other factors), connect with their college counselor, and search for scholarships. They can also rank colleges, develop lists, and share these lists with a counselor. College Navigator (nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator) The National Center for Education Statistics has a search feature called College Navigator. College View (www.collegeview.com/collegesearch/index.jsp) College View presents an easy to use menu of drop downs and sliders to tailor your search criteria beyond the normal indicators. ACT Profile (www.act.org/collegesearch) College and career planning with a custom profile. Free account needed. College Data (www.collegedata.com) Match yourself up with a school and input your information to see if your scores and data make it likely for you to be strongly considered. Niche (colleges.niche.com) Another site with ratings about many different areas, from Drug Safety to Athletics, Parking to Food Quality. Student driven testimonials may add some substance to the ratings. Chegg (www.chegg.com/schools) An alternative to the typical search engine, Chegg helps you key in on what really matters to you: the most beautiful campus, the best food, and the most school spirit. You Can Go - CollegeBoard (youcango.collegeboard.org) Another site from the CollegeBoard, though this one uses videos of testimonials about overcoming the barriers to college admission: grades, distance, cost, etc. Peterson's Data - (www.petersonsdata.com) One of the most comprehensive profiles of more than 4,000 schools has been in operation for more than 50 years. Enroll Education - (www.librarysciencedegrees.org) This group published unbiased, professionally reviewed content that helps current & prospective college students looking for guidance on training & educational opportunities in the industry. Their information is reviewed by top-tier professionals in the library science & informatics spaces This includes lists of scholarships, comprehensive degree program data, licensing & certification info by state, and career profiles for the industry. |
